What Does Toast Have To Do With Marketing?

Sometimes it really is the simplest things that make us the happiest. I made myself toad in the hole today for a snack. I always toast the hole separately and eat it with just a little butter. I have strangely complicated rules for the easiest “meal” on the planet.

And I know I can level it all up easily. But as I had my first bite of the toast hole, I started to wonder "Why don't you just eat toast more often? Not avocado toast or toast with ricotta and strawberries and basil. Just toast."

Not that the other toasts aren't excellent in their own way. But perhaps we all need a little more simplicity in life, especially these days.

More like toad ON the hole but you get the gist, right?

As marketers, we spend our days dealing in extreme complexities. Focusing on editorial calendars, evaluating new technologies, big data, insights, sales funnels, audience personas - and living in a constant state of assessment and enhancement.

We have so many types of marketing, so many channels, so many methods... maybe we sometimes miss the clear, obvious tactics. Maybe we over complicate the messaging.

In an effort to engage your customers, are you presenting them the choice between sesame french toast with orange marmalade and edamame basic spread? Maybe sometimes they need clear, simple messaging. Served when they need to hear it.

On second thought, I’ll take all the toast please.
